Antenatal Classes - A special time for you and your partner to connect .....

Why come to an antenatal class?

This one day antenatal class is designed to suit those who cannot attend several weekly classes. Dads or birthing partners are especially welcome. Groups are small and discussion and questions are encouraged. It is an opportunity to meet other expectant parents, to explore the unknown, to challenge myths about birth, to express and hopefully allay fears and concerns about labour and delivery. Information is empowering and can help new parents feel more in control of what is happening. Breathing, relaxation and massage techniques for labour are taught and practiced.

Who can attend ?

Parents usually attend when mum is between 28 – 36 weeks pregnant. Mums and birthing partners are welcome.

What topics are covered?

The one-day all-inclusive antenatal class includes the following topics

  • Preparing for the birth – the last few weeks of pregnancy. How to prepare yourself mentally and physically for labour. Looking at birth plans
  • Labour - signs of labour and when to go to hospital; stages of labour, monitoring, medical interventions, pain relief – medical and  alternative
  • How to help yourself in labour – breathing and relaxation techniques, different positions for labour and delivery
  • Massage, acupressure, homeopathy and reflexology – uses in labour
  • What birthing partners can do to help
  • The first few hours after delivery
  • Caring for your baby
  • Mum in the postnatal period
  • Caring for your relationship
